Justice or Mercy; Which do you prefer?
(This was written by brother Scott Mitchell, pastor of Grace Family Bible Church in Seguin, Texas.)
There is a popular bumper sticker that reads,“If you want peace, pray for justice.” Justice consists in giving to every one what is his due. In other words, getting what we deserve, or “I want what’s coming to me.”
The truth is, if we got what we deserved, we’d be dead. See, justice is measured by a judge. The judge of all mankind is God Almighty, who has already tried our case in court and found us guilty.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23
You didn’t choose to be born a sinner, but you have a sin nature which you inherited from your parents going all the way back to Adam. We ended up sinners by nature and by choice, but the Bible says,
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord…..Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification.” Romans 6:23; 4:25
The fact of the matter is, we don’t need justice, we need mercy. God was merciful in sending His Son to die for your sins at Calvary. ((1 Cor 15:3-4
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures))
He extended His grace towards all mankind by putting His own Son to death on the cross, the death which you and I deserved.
You can’t do anything to save yourself, but you can receive the mercy that God has freely given to you by believing on Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, trusting that He died to pay for all of your sins.
Have you ever done this? If not, why not now?
